The meaning of the Letaba TVET College Logo

The word “Letaba” originates from the African word “Lehlaba” meaning, sandy river.

This logo has definite symbolism and was designed to communicate, amongst others, the following messages

The Mountains:

• These are the mountains surrounding the Letaba area.
• They depict heritage, permanence, strength, support and stability.

The River:

• The main sources of water of the Letaba River are found in the drainage in the mountain escarpment above Tzaneen where it forms the Great Letaba River near Tzaneen area and Maake area. The Middle Letaba River near Giyani area and Modjadji area flows down to Kruger National Park, where it joins with the Olifants River just before Mozambique. Education is like this river, a never-ending process which brings prosperity and wealth, where ever it flows.
• The small rivers represent the flow of knowledge from each of the four campuses of the Letaba TVET College.
• It symbolizes the important part that co-operative functioning and unity play in the new Further Education and Training Institutions.
• Water from this river is the knowledge acquired from the College. Anyone who drinks from this river will never be thirsty of knowledge.

The Trees:

• The trees represent the four campuses of the Letaba TVET College.
• The Letaba district is rich in plantation.
• It implicates a sign of life, growth and achievement.

The Colours:

• Yellow symbolizes merit, wisdom and enlightenment. Its brightness brings light to our community.
• Green symbolizes development, growth, energy, life, power and authority.
• Blue is a sign of intellectual enhancement and commitment.
• Black shows ambition, drive, elegance and mystery.
• Red symbolizes strength, passion, eagerness, joy, fun and celebration.

Slogan:

The image and its symbolism are amalgamed in the Letaba TVET College slogan:

“KNOWLEDGE IS LIFE”
